Orb Planting and Growth
The core loop in Orbid revolves around planting orbs on a field. Each orb sprouts gradually, increasing your total orb count. You need to reach specific orb thresholds to satisfy level requirements. Placement matters because orbs take time to mature, and threats can disrupt your plans. The field acts as a living resource board where every decision about where and when to plant affects your survival.
Life Points and Risk Management
You invest life points to progress. Poor choices can lead to failure, so balancing investment with safety is central. Life points are not just a health bar; they are a resource you spend to advance. This creates tension: spend too aggressively and you risk running out, spend too cautiously and you may miss level goals. Each playthrough hinges on how well you manage this trade-off.
Enemy Interactions and Upgrades
Enemies can be overcome by clicking on them or by colliding with them when you have enough orbs. This gives you two tactical options: direct clicking for precision, or collision when your orb count is high enough to absorb the impact. After each level, you collect orbs that unlock upgrades to enhance abilities. These upgrades improve survival chances, and choosing which ones to prioritize shapes your strategy.
Controls and Session Flow
All interactions use the mouse. Planting, clicking enemies, and navigating menus are mouse-driven. The game is designed for desktop play, and full-screen mode can make sessions more engaging. There is no mention of touch controls or mobile support, so a computer with a keyboard and mouse provides the intended experience. Sessions are level-based, with each level ending in an upgrade phase.
